On June 1st 2020, Maine secretary of state, Matthew Dunlap, announced that Donald Trump would be removed from the ballot in the state’s Republican presidential primary. This follows the Republican Party of Maine’s decision to hold a caucus instead of the primary, which Trump opposed. Dunlap stated that state law authorizes the secretary of state to remove presidential candidates from the ballot when a party has chosen to use a caucus instead.
